यया स्वप्नं भयं शोकं विषादं मदमेव च ।
न विमुञ्चति दुर्मेधा धृतिः सा पार्थ तामसी ॥१८- ३५॥
yayaa swapnaM bhayaM shokaM wiShaadaM madamewa cha ।
na wimuJNchati durmedhaa dhRRitiH saa paartha taamasii ॥१८- ३५॥

That by which dreams, fear, sorrow, dejection, and even intoxication
Are not cast off, that dull-witted resolve, O Partha, is taamasic.

Resolve by which a dull person does not give up sleep, fear, grief, despair, and arrogance; that resolve is Taamasika, O Arjuna.
And that determination which cannot go beyond dreaming, fearfulness, lamentation, moroseness, and illusion--such unintelligent determination is in the mode of darkness.
