एतान्न हन्तुमिच्छामि घ्नतोऽपि मधुसूदन ।
अपि त्रैलोक्यराज्यस्य हेतोः किं नु महीकृते ॥१-३५॥

etaanna hantumichChaami ghnato'pi madhusoodana ।
api trailokyaraajyasya hetoH kiM nu mahiikRRite ॥१-३५॥

Translation
O Madhusoodana, I don't desire the killing of these, even [if] they be killers,
Even for the goal of reigning over the three worlds, why for the sake of just the earth?
