अर्जुन उवाच
ज्यायसी चेत्कर्मणस्ते मता बुद्धिर्जनार्दन ।
तत्किं कर्मणि घोरे मां नियोजयसि केशव ॥३- १॥

jyaayasii chetkarmaNaste mataa buddhirjanaardana ।

tatkiM karmaNi ghore maaM niyojayasi keshawa ॥३- १॥

Arjun said,

If you consider wisdom superior to action, O Janardana,
Then why to this ghastly work exhort me, O Keshav?

Arjuna said, "O Keshav, why exhort me to this ghastly work, if, O Janardana, you consider wisdom superior to action?"
