tatra sattwaM nirmalatwaatprakaashakamanaamayam ।

sukhasa~Ngena badhnaati dnyaanasa~Ngena chaanagha ॥१४- ६॥

Translation

Of these, sattva, by its purity, is an illuminator and harmless.
[It] binds through attachment to happiness and attachment to knowledge, O sinless one.

Translation

Of these, Sattva, being calm, is illuminating and ethical. It fetters the embodied being, the Jeevaatma or Purusha, by attachment to happiness and knowledge, O Arjuna.

Translation

O sinless one, the mode of goodness being purer than the others, is illuminating, and it frees one from all sinful reactions. Those situated in that mode develop knowledge, but they become conditioned by the concept of happiness.
