अर्जुन उवाच
संन्यासं कर्मणां कृष्ण पुनर्योगं च शंससि ।
यच्छ्रेय एतयोरेकं तन्मे ब्रूहि सुनिश्चितम् ॥५- १॥

saMnyaasaM karmaNaaM kRRiShNa punaryogaM cha shaMsasi ।

yachChreya etayorekaM tanme broohi sunishchitam ॥५- १॥

Arjun said,
Renunciation of duties, O Krishna, and again yoga you extol.
But of these two the better one? That tell me with certainty.

Arjuna said,
O Krishna, you extol renunciation of duties as well as yoga. But tell me with certainty which of these two is the better one.

Arjuna said: O Krishna, You praise transcendental knowledge (the Saamkhya or Karma-Samnyasa) and also performance of unattached action, Karma-yoga. Tell me, definitely, which one is better of the two. (See also 5.05)
