सत्कारमानपूजार्थं तपो दम्भेन चैव यत् ।

Austerities undertaken to earn laurels or reverence, and those done out of hypocrisy
Are called raajasic, unstable, impermanent.

Austerity that is done for gaining respect, honor, reverence, and for show, is said to be Raajasika, unsteady, and impermanent.
Those ostentatious penances and austerities which are performed in order to gain respect, honor and reverence are said to be in the mode of passion. They are neither stable nor permanent.
