श्रद्धया परया तप्तं तपस्तत्त्रिविधं नरैः ।
अफलाकाङ्क्षिभिर्युक्तैः सात्त्विकं परिचक्षते ॥१७- १७॥

Transliteration

shraddhayaa parayaa taptaM tapastattriwidhaM naraiH ।

aphalaakaa~NkShibhiryuktaiH saattwikaM parichakShate ॥१७- १७॥

Translation

These three austerities practiced by people with transcendent faith,
Unshackled by desire for fruit, are called sattvic.

Translation

Threefold austerity (of thought, word, and deed) practiced by yogis with supreme faith, without a desire for the fruit, is said to be Saattvika austerity.

Translation

This threefold austerity, practiced by men whose aim is not to benefit themselves materially but to please the Supreme, is of the nature of goodness.
